I completed my taxes, and I am all ready to mail them off on the 15th. Less than I expected on the Federal. Slightly more than I estimated for the State. But overall under what I thought the total would be.
This is not my week to be riding a moped apparently. This morning on my way to work I totally ate asphalt. Face first too. Full face helmets ftw! Watching the ground come at your face is a very strange feeling.
My injuries are next to nothing. My chin is a bit sore where impact was, my right knee got a small chunk of flesh torn from it and my left thumb is sprained. All injuries I acquired while roller skating up and down the sidewalk as a kid. The worst part is now my black jeans have a hole in the knee, and not a cool hole either, a retarded hole. Time to hunt down a new pair.
Seriously though I was wearing all the right gear. Full face helmet, leather gloves, a jacket and jeans. whew!
Retarded, or how I managed to do a handstand on a moving moped.
I woke up sore and stiff in both shoulders, in muscles I never knew existed. I couldn’t figure out why I was so sore and then I remembered the stupid thing I did on Monday night!
All I can say is that I was pretty tired. I almost didn’t go out for our weekly Moped Monday ride, but I did. In hindsight I realize I wasn’t being very smart or being very alert. I was just following whomever was in front of me without paying much attention to where I was or where we were going. I had no idea we were going down Gough Street I for some reason thought we were still on the other side of Van Ness Blvd! Then bam, I hit the abrupt grade change in the hill, which there are signs noting by the way, going probably 40-45 mph and was ejected from the seat of my bike.
Now before I finish what happened I need to interject. I’ve been in a fair amount of car accidents in my lifetime and every time something serious is about to happen time seems to slow down. It’s like I have all the time in the world to stop and think about what’s about to happen and how I should react. Luckily for me this happened last night. All my instincts told me to let go of the handlebars and try to put myself in the right position, head over feet. Luckily though I had this time to think and react correctly. I instead thought about physics and was able to weigh the pro’s and con’s of letting go or not letting go and what would happen to me. I figured if I let go I was for sure going to crash but if I just kept holding on, and if I actually gave the bike some gas it would speed up pulling my body back down onto it, which is what I did and what the bike did. I landed a bit rough putting all the weight into my shoulders but I managed to pull it off and keep on riding.
So that’s why my shoulders are so sore. I guess I shouldn’t be complaining I could have crashed and had a crap load of road rash and or broken bones or something a lot worse.
“OK, if you think that by threatening me, you can get me to be your slave, well… that’s where you’re right, but, and I’m only saying this because I care, there are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market today that are just as tasty as the real thing.”—Chris Knight, Real Genius
Last Saturday I got Val’s vespa up and running. It hadn’t been idling properly for over a year and wouldn’t start for us at all just days ago. A little trouble shooting, a new sparkplug and timing adjustments made to the idle screw and we’ve got ourselves a damn fine vintage vespa scooter. It was fun to ride, even for the short amount of time I was on it. I’m going to learn to ride manual on it. It’s a different kind of fun than my moped. Nothing is as fun as riding a moped but it was different and exciting.
Oh man, I almost forgot about my tumblr account! How could I forget you? I have a good excuse. No, really. Just hear me out.
Excuses in no particular order!
February 15-18th was the LA moped rally: Flock Ya! There was lots of packing and stressing out to do before I boarded the bus we Creatures chartered and headed down to LA.
LA exhuasted me. All I did was work and sleep from the 19-21st
I went to Sacramento to visit my friends and family from the 22nd-24th
I caught the flu from my family and was sicker than a dog from the 25th-1st
I had to fix my pedal chain on my moped, which broke in LA, on the 2nd because there was no way in hell I was going to continue to run start my bike.
Monday the 3rd I worked overtime and rode on our Monday night ride as usual. No time. The ride was pretty sweet though as we went on the freeway. Crazy! I turned into a pumpkin at midnight though and cut the ride short for me as I headed back home.
On the 4th I tried to fix my friends 66’ Vespa 125. It had been sitting too long and was really hard to start. We had other things planned so that was that.
Yesterday I de-glazed my front break and went out for pizza with David. I really need to clean the grease out of my back break drum so I can actually stop but that requires way more time and energy, ha!
So ya you can see how easy it was for me to forget! I’ve got some sweet pics of my neices and nephew coming as soon as I remember to upload them from my camera.
